Indianapolis, Jan. 2016

Game 1 vs. Tim Fish
FASTIng for Tim, while I 'missed' AAGLRVX (1). In a tough decision late, I opened a TWS-bingo lane for him late by scoring 40 for MIRZA and got burned by ETESIAN. Here's the link to an engaging game: http://www.cross-tables.com/annotated.php?u=22695 .
344 – 345      0-1     (1)      me: SQXZ

Game 2 vs. Rob Kearn
I opened with an unintentional phony AMBONE*. Turns out AMBONES is plural of AMBO. Just wanted that H front hook I guess. EILMNOTY (2) soon followed and then double-blank ADEGIRU (3). I missed ?DEGINTRX (4), and then double-blank (u and t) ADEGINOUT (5) on a turn I made a lesser bingo. ACERRFSS (6) put this one to bed.
470 – 288     1-1     +181     me: ??SSSSX

Game 3 vs. Liz Davis
My ACEHLRSS (7) fell between her PANELED and HAILERS. Her GIRATERS* came off, but she led pillar to post.
386 – 417     1-2     +150     me: SSJQ

Game 4 vs. Chris Sitler
Chris hitting URINATES and LINTERS with the blanks forced my hand. I got away with STATICY* to take a small lead, and GASHY* a couple turns later got me out of a bad rack. he was forced to try CURIATE* for an out-play. http://www.cross-tables.com/annotated.php?u=22791
425 – 360     2-2     +215     me: SSSQZ

Game 5 vs. Joe Roberdeau
EINORST (8), ADEGLOT (9), double-blank DEEOPRW (10), and BCDEERSU (11) through a blank-r – Joe just never seems to have any luck against me. TENSIONER was a cool nine I “missed”.
524 – 240     3-2     +499      me: ??SSSSX

Game 6 vs. Julia Bogle
Despite seemingly trying to give up and loudly calling that I may get to join the 700-club, she ended up scoring quite well for her draws. I had ?ABEJOR (12), AEGILNST (13), and EELORSTU (14) before she exchanged twice in a row to RETAINER. I got ABDHILNS (15) with the other blank late. Then, to my surprise, Quackle agreed with me that playing ACQUITS for 50+ was better than blocking her out-plays of ALIENIST/LITANIES (of which she played one).
604 – 359     4-2     +744     me: ??SSSJQZ

Game 7 vs. Marc Broering
Got away with ROOSIFY* when it's RUSSIFY that fits the definition I had in mind. EEHIRRS (16) and AEKLSTU (17) by midgame
436 – 288     5-2     +892     me: ??SSSSQX

Game 8 vs. Liz Davis
My awesome drawing and some solid enough plays got me back high enough in standings to make the KOH match. Huzzah!

But while she was bingoing with ScORERS and PROTEINS, I was mislaying VOLOST for overlooking QUANTA taking an L-back hook and burning tiles for too few points. We traded DEEGILNT (18) and her FREEzING late.
363 – 452     5-3     +803     me: QS

Spread was shiny and the record good for 3rd place, but I'd rather win the close ones and lose some blowouts than the other way around. This day was a good lesson in how tough competition at the Division One level is, even at small tournaments.

Stat me, baybeeee –

Avg. score: 444 - 343

Blanks: 8/16
Esses: 22/32
JQXZ: 15/32
TOTAL: 45/80

Bingos: 17 – 10
10 sevens, 7 eights

I won the four games I had both blanks, 1-3 in the games I drew neither. There were no split-blank games.
